Salon 201 opened in 2007 in Market Place. It is co-owned by Julie and Keith Watts, although it's fair to say, Julie is the 'brains' behind the salon. As well as hairdressing, Julie also manages the salon and our employees. Keith stays away from the salon and is responsible for the admin side and most important, pays the wages! The partnership works well ... so much so, that Julie and Keith are getting married!
It was not easy at first, bearing in mind we opened just at the start of the recession, but we have always managed to employ at least 4 stylists and gradually built up our clientele and reputation as a friendly salon that people enjoyed visiting. At first, we also made and sold wedding accessories and jewellery, but soon realised that we should concentrate on hairdressing only and so stopped the wedding side. But we did add one service ... our Helionova sunbed. The sunbed proved very popular and still is! It's a fact, nobody wants to appear on the beach looking pale!
In 2012, the old SNC information building, became available in the newly formed Burgess Square. We decided to take the plunge and move into 55, Burgess Square. It has proved to be a very good move! With the likes of Costa Coffee, Subway and Co-op in the square, we get a lot of 'walk-ins' now we are in a far better location in the town.
The new premises feel a lot more spacious, as the building is an old listed barn and still retains it's original oak beams in the high ceiling. Julie again designed the interior and changed our image to a 'purple chic' look. We have had many nice comments about how good the salon looks.

We also changed all the salon furniture and mirrors to fit in with the design, plus adding a hot drinks machine that can produce coffee shop quality drinks at the push of a button including Cappuccino, Latte, Espresso, and Hot Chocolate ... which has proved a winner with our customers.Julie also made the decision to add a Nail Service in the new salon. Julie trained as a nail technician and gradually has built up her clientele.
We have been very happy in our new location and have seen our business grow, so much so, that we have decided on phase three of Salon 201's life. The hair and beauty together with the sunbed, have outgrown the size of the salon. So we have taken the decision to move the beauty side into new premises and add more services. We will also employ two beauticians to work in the salon, which will be known as Beauty 201, but run under the Salon 201 umbrella.
The new salon is located at 50 Market Place, just a stones throw from our present location in Burgess Square. It used to be Victoria Wine a few years ago. The interior has been completely revamped, including adding new rooms for Treatments Spray Tanning and Sunbed.  We also have an open area for Nails and a massage Pedicure Chair. Julie has designed the interior so it matches Salon 201 in 'purple chic'. We will also provide waxing, eyebrow, massage and facial services.
Once Beauty 201 is open, we will refurbish Salon 201 by making a bigger waiting area with new seating, adding a new hair station and hair wash basin. The salon will then concentrate fully on hairdressing.
We look forward to this new phase in Salon 201's history and continue to provide our customers with an even better service.
